Brian is a respected litigator and counselor whose experience spans areas including real estate, health care, telecommunications, construction, finance, insurance, and intellectual property. He brings strategic thinking to matters, simple and complex, in and out of federal and state courts and administrative proceedings. Brian focuses single-mindedly on finding creative solutions for his clients.
Before joining Cain Hibbard, Brian spent more than a decade at the New York City Office of the Corporation Counsel, where he advised city agencies and litigated on their behalf in commercial and regulatory matters in New York and elsewhere. He served as lead counsel in cases against major domestic and international companies for breach of contract, fraud, False Claims Act violations, and other theories. He also litigated cases involving trademark and copyright infringement, insurance coverage disputes, debtor-creditor issues, and arbitrary and capricious government action. Brian was recognized as a 40-under-40 “Rising Star” by the New York Law Journal in 2018.
Brian received his B.A. from Columbia University and his J.D. from NYU School of Law, where he was an editor of the NYU Environmental Law Journal. He also studied jazz saxophone at the University of Miami.
Brian lives in Great Barrington with his wife, Annie Maurer, and their two children. He is actively involved in the Berkshire County community, coaching youth sports teams and serving on the nonprofit boards of Berkshire United Way and the Community Development Corporation of South Berkshire.
